CLASSES FOR CHILDREN, YOUNG ADULTS AND FAMILIES

Our programs are curated for different age groups, so every lesson offers the right level of engagement for your little chef or families .

Grow food confidence

Each cooking session is an opportunity for your child to embrace a new challenge. Through hands-on learning, your child is more likely to remain engaged and to build upon their life skills for the future. Children are much more inclined to try new foods that they have created themselves!!

Goals:

  1. Promote Family Well-being: Engage children and families in cooking and physical activities to improve physical and mental health.

  2. Healthy Cooking: Teach children and families to prepare nutritious meals from scratch, focusing on budget-friendly pot-to-plate methods.

  3. Affordability: Provide accessible and affordable cooking sessions to children and families, recognizing budget constraints.

objectives:

  1. Boosting Self-Esteem: Enhance confidence and self-esteem for both children and parents through engaging activities.

  2. Developing Positive Behaviours: Foster positive behaviours and disciplines, strengthening family relationships.

  3. Improving Physical and Mental Development: Encourage physical fitness and cognitive growth through cooking and activities.

Strengthening Social Skills: Promote teamwork, communication, and a sense of belonging within families through shared experiences.

bake and shake after school sessions

Our Bake and Shake sessions are exactly what you’d think they were from the giveaway title !!

The sessions consist of a cooking class and some fun physical activities, for example, sports, dancing and games.

The children will start by preparing a simple, healthy meal.  While their food is in the oven, they will head to the school gym or hall to run off some energy and have fun with one of our coaches, which may vary week to week. We use dance teachers, sports and fitness coaches and sometimes even a yoga teacher!  There is something for everyone.

Once their creations are cooked, they will return to the kitchen area where they will all eat their food as a group. Hopefully they will clear their plates as they will have worked up an appetite!! Children also generally want to try the food they have prepared themselves. Any leftover food will be sent home with them.

We introduce some gentle nutritional advice and include some quiz questions on cooking, healthy eating, and where our food comes.  Our enriching programme is designed so the children can all succeed. They will be developing their skills in the kitchen which they can carry forward into adult life.

We will provide a lovely recipe book for each child with all of the recipes we cook and any quizzes / nutritional information we have done in the class. They will be able to take these home at the end of term.

school holiday clubs and activities

We have successfully delivered multiple school holiday cooking and activity programmes.

High Kicks community Interest Company provided 4 hours of fun activities per day over the School Holidays.

The focus is on our main activity in which the children prepare and cook the food that they  would eat for lunch each day.

The recipes are fairly simple for the children to follow however are nutritious. On days where we take the children on an outing , we get them involved in making up a picnic.

We talk to them about healthy food choices, using the eatwell guide as an example, to involve them in making decisions as to what they think should go into their meals. The children try foods they may otherwise not have access to or have tried before. We offer soft nutritional education by discussing healthy food and what each food group enables us to do. i.e. carbohydrates to give you energy, dairy for healthy bones etc.  We also talk about foods we do and don't like and encourage the children to try new things.  We play games based on the food groups such as a sugar content game for food and drinks.

Whilst the food was cooking there were other physical activities provided by our valued team member who is a qualified P E teacher.

We incorporate a physical side in each session of the programme. For example surfboarding, ice skating, sports games and activities, beach olympics, tennis and cricket sessions, dancing, park trips and games.

We  have enriching activities such as bracelet making, fun children’s first aid sessions, animal antics, and also crafts to make and take away with them like pencil toppers and topical crafts

There are colouring and craft activities for the children to get involved with.

We always encourage healthy eating and physical activity every day in our holiday clubs.

Recipes are handed out and also emailed to parents at the end of the sessions.

We often have themed days, for example we had an Indonesian cookery demonstration where the children tried the food and got to take some home with them.

We always encourage healthy eating and physical activity every day in our holiday clubs.

Our little budding chefs are accompanied by their grown up who will help them make their delicious creations.

We also have arts and crafts at every session along with some music if they feel like having a little dance!! We also provide pre school toys for them to play with. Our classes are very laid back, your little one may want to wander off and play during the session which is absolutely fine.

We often have a themed week where we do activities such as Chinese New year recipes, decorating valentines biscuits, making a Chinese lantern, seasonal arts and crafts etc.

You will receive a copy of the recipe we make in class to replicate at home and if you bring a food container, you can take home any leftovers your child makes in class.

fussy eaters??

Did you know that children are way more likely to try a food that they have cooked themselves!! We have lost count of the number of parents who come to the sessions insistent that their child wouldn’t even attempt to try the food they’re making…….the next thing they’re sitting enjoying their creations!!
